Jamaica (TVJ) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Communications Group, and is the leading provider of news, information and
entertainment for Jamaican consumers and of Jamaican television

Smile
Jamaica is a morning TVJ’s popular morning magazine
show. It enjoys 80% share of morning viewers. It deals with different
subjects like sport, culture, information, music, dance.
We
can also find it on Twitter and Facebook “ Smile Jamaica”.
I'm going to analyze the language of this morning TVJ’s
popular morning magazine show,
and more particularly in the column "Jamaican Street Artists". I think this video can be very interesting to analyze because it shows, how in a same country, there are different living conditions, and manner of speaking. Actually, in the video, we can see these differences in the conversation between the presenter and the artists (street artists).

Moreover,
the theme chosen in this video (the art) coincides with our objective
: the language as a way to express, to transcribe an
emotion.
Firstly, we can notice that the presenter speaks a good English (with an accent). She expresses herself very clearly and her sentences are understandable for viewers who speak English.
Then, the interviewed woman has a good English and speaks it very clearly. However, the painter expresses himself in a much more local language (Creole). For that reason, a reduced group of person can understand him.
In this video the differences of classes through the speech and the manner of speaking between the persons in the interview, are evident. Indeed, English is the official language in Jamaica. It's taught since the youngest age at school. However, all the children have no access according to their standard of living there. That’s why, most of Jamaicans speak Creole between themselves but English remains the official language (radio, television, speech) (More informations in my first article:" English language in Jamaica").
Moreover the woman explains even to the presenter that the present artist left the school very early but that it does not prevent that he has an outstanding artistic talent.

To
conclude, this video summarizes the fact that in a same country, it's
possible to speak two different languages and people can understand
each other. However, the drawback is that for a foreign listener, it
could be difficult to understand the dialect of this country. In
Jamaica, the official language is the English, so for a person who
doesn't speak English, it can be a handicap to understand the means
of comunication, and any bureaucratic affairs.
