If we are dealing with Jamaica, we MUST mention Nesta Rober Marley, worlwide known as "Bob Marley". When he was born on 1945, their parents, Norval Sinclair Marley and Cedella Booker could not imagine that they were giving birth to one of the most famous artist of all the times.
Bob Marley started his carrier in 1962 recording two singles but they attracted little attention. Is in 1963 when with his band "The Teenagers" (name finally replaced by "The Wailers") he started to gain fame. Bob Marley and The Wailers recorded about 13 studio albums.
Bob Marley was a follower of the Rastafari religion. When they asked to him what was Rastafari religion based on he answered:
"I would say to the people, Be still, and know that His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia is the Almighty. Now, the Bible seh so, Babylon newspaper seh so, and I and I the children seh so. Yunno? So I don't see how much more reveal our people want. Wha' dem want? a white God, well God come black. True true."
Marked in yellow we can see some variations in the language compared to normal english. In this way, we have "seh" instead of "says" and "Yunno" instead of "You know", and also the contraction of "What" in "Wha'" and "dem" replacing "them"
Hi! Congratulations for the post :)
ResponderEliminarI think that Bob Marley was and still is, a relevant figure in the history of music, not only because of his 'public life' (as happens nowadays with some musicians) but because of the message he transmits with the lyrics against slavery, and against racism. His message of freedom is still listened even when 30 years have passed after his death.
